Tuwharetoa Street represents one of Taupo's most significant urban developments in recent times. Borne of the necessity to upgrade an area of the Taupo CBD that was becoming run down, Taupo District Council engaged Mansergh Graham to prepare a Master Plan for the street. Design work drew on an understanding of the region and its genius loci, resulting from district plan landscape assessment work being undertaken by the practice at the time. The design for the street has resulted in it becoming a significant destination within the CBD.
