Locherbie Park Development Structure Plan

In 2006 Mansergh Graham where engaged by Matamata Piako District Council to identify of opportunities and constraints, and prepare development structure plan for Locherbie Park in Morrinsville. The outcome of this project was a recommendation that two distinct character areas be developed and managed separately within the park. Key outcomes included the provision of a community park and garden, focussing of the provision of open grassed spaces with amenity planting and specimen trees; and the ecological restoration of the gully using appropriate native species.

Both areas within the park would be connected by a series of interlinking walkways (existing and proposed) with additional enhancements to include:

  • Better definition of entrances into the park through the use of specimen tree planting.
  • Enhancement of the playground area through the provision of seating and shade trees.
  • New walkways along the northern side of the gully.
  • Restoration planting of the gully.
  • Management and enhancement of the two pond areas into a native and exotic wetland.
  • The managed removal of willow and hawthorn, within the reserve, over time.
  • The removal of private structures (and compost) from within the reserve and the delineation of the reserve boundary.
